체언 수식 부사의 관형사성과 부사성

Abstract

본고에서는 이른바 ‘체언 수식 부사’로 다루어져 온 요소들이 수식언의 연속체 상에서 상대적인 정도성을 가지고 있음을 확인하고, 이를 바탕으로 관형사성·부사성을 검증함으로써 그 정도를 측정하였다. 먼저 선행 연구를 검토하여 그동안 ‘체언 수식 부사’의 범주 설정에 대한 논의는 대부분 단일한 기준의 적용 결과만을 놓고 이루어져 왔음을 확인하였다. 체언 수식 부사들은 본질적으로 수식언 내에서 다면적인 속성을 지니고 있기 때문에, 이들의 특성을 제대로 밝히기 위해서는 다양한 품사 분류 기준을 적용해야 한다. 이를 위해 본고에서는 우선 체언 수식 부사와 관련하여 원형적인 관형사와 부사가 지니는 의미적 특성, 분포적 특성, 통사적 제약을 살펴보고, 체언 수식 부사의 관형사성·부사성을 검증하기 위해 9가지 기준을 설정하였다. 그리고 6개의 주요 체언 수식 부사들을 각 기준에 적용함으로써 그 상대적 위계를 제시하였다.

In this paper, we argue that the words that have been treated as so-called ‘Noun Modifying Adverbs(NMA)’ have relative degree on the continuum of modifiers. Based on this perspective, the degree was measured by verifying properties of pre-noun and adverb. It was proved that most of the discussions on the categorization of NMAs have been made based on the results of applying a single criterion through review of previous studies. Since NMAs are inherently multi-faceted within the modifiers, various part-of-speech classification criteria must be applied to characterize them properly. In this paper, we examined the semantic and distributional characteristics of prototypical pre-nouns and adverbs in relation to NMA, and nine criteria were set to verify the properties of pre-noun and adverb of NMA. Conclusively, the relative hierarchies were presented by applying the six main elements of NMA to each criterion.
