Abstract
Due to the recent increase in multicultural families, interest in multicultural families and policies for them are increasing. The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the factors that influence the career decisions of children of multicultural families and to draw policy implications for them to decide their career in the right direction and to grow as a member of society. This study, using data from the 8th year of the 「MAPS: Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study」, establishes an ordinal logistic model for 1,125 multicultural adolescents. The main influencing factors were career preparation, policy support, and regional scale. As a result of the analysis, it was found that career preparation and career support policies increase career decisions for children of multicultural families, and career support policies have a positive moderating effect on the relationship between career preparation and career decisions. In the analysis by regional differences, career preparation was confirmed as an influencing factor to increase career decisions in all regions, but the effect of policy support was different. Based on empirical analysis, this study suggests that it is necessary to develop policies in a way that students from multicultural families actively participate and to design differentiated policies by regional scale.
